Apparently they are meeting with him on Monday. My guess is that they resign him. - DZ

Sorgi is due a $275,000 roster bonus next week. That's a lot for a backup QB. It also means we'll probably be looking for another QB late in the draft. We would have been in trouble with Sorgi for any period of time, but we're absolutely screwed with Painter. - Joma

What the ? Adam Schefter just announced we released Sorgi. Why? Painter can't throw for his life and I remember interviews where Peyton said Sorgi really
helped him with tape analysis.

Now Painter is our backup QB. - jpjandrade

I'm surprised we released Sorgi given how bad Painter played this year. - Joma

I guess there goes my "switch the defense to what Coyer ran in Denver with more blitzing ...

idea, but I still think we need a third good DE.

However, I'll get over that and say that this is good news all around. The offseason just got much happier. - dmstorm22

Right, I know Bethea was a first round tender. I just don't expect anyone to sign him. I'm more interested in what happens to the second round guys. - DZ

Polian tendered the right guys, signed the right guy to the right contract, and let the right guys go (Bye-bye Rushing, Jennings, and others). By the way, I never really liked Rushing, because he was on the roster solely as a punt returner. The team never put him at cornerback, even with everybody hurt.

Now there are no current holes in our starting lineup, and we can draft for depth and depth only. It's a nice luxury to have.

Oh, and we can still re-sign Hagler and Keiaho (and maybe a couple of others) for the minimum when they aren't picked up by another team. - Cass

From a comment on SB

A little overpriced but not too bad. 6.6 million a year is steep but I'll be interested to see what the "real" numbers are, considering how it's back or front-loaded and such - psvirsky

Yeah I'm surprised how popular he is, coming off a second straight knee ligament tear. He's played what now, 4 games in a year and a half? And considering when he tore it, he won't be at 100% for the season either (my unprofessional impression is that it takes a year to be "healthy" after an ACL tear but 2 years to get back to where you were). I understand it more with Frazier up in Minny but for non-Tampa 2 teams it just seems like a big risk to take an injured guy who's only played here. Oh well, I hope it works out for him, here or elsewhere - psvirsky

I agree. I love MJax. Sounds like he's a popular guy with other teams though... - DZ

That sounds high to me. If I had to guess, I'd say 5 years $25-30 million. - DZ

I really want MJax back. I seem to remember Polian saying that the prognosis for him making a full recovery was good. And I had hopes (delusions?) of a 2010 Colts secondary with the Zombie, Bethea, Hayden, Powers and MJax manning the slot.

Even in 2007 when he was a healthy starter, the Colts moved him inside in nickle situations. And that is where he excelled. And yes, I know his price tag was too high for that role (especially coming off the injuries)... but damn you Vikings or Steelers or whoever else, I still want him back! - Doug England

Best news of the day!

Based on the team's earlier comments regarding making Brackett a competitive offer, I was assuming something in the $40-45MM, 4-6 year range. We'll find out soon enough, eh? - Chip Bennett

Also, Schefter mentioned the Steelers as a possible destination for MJax. I like the guy and really don't want to see him on a good rival (who I begrudgingly respect). I'd rather see him on the Vikings, a good team where he can have more success, but where I won't be scared of playing them and having him make a big play to win. - psvirsky
