It was just great route recognition, with the benefit of having deep help

Roman Harper, I beleive, was shading Wayne all night (that's why we never once heard his name).

The Tracy pick-six was pretty similar to Asante's in the 2006 Title Game. - dmstorm22

I assume porter had lots of help as well. Not going to disagree but that is the same type of help he would have gotten in the regular season. Not a "something special to shut the #1 WR down" type of help.

I wasn't ripping wayne for that catch - just an example of a play he normally grabs easily showing he wasn't on his "A" game.

I don't really want to re-hash the harrison debate but Wayne's performance in this game shows absolutely nothing on the side of WR1's getting taken out of games by defensive game plans. (note i also didn't see much of anything done differently from the colts defensive side to take Colston out of the game plan either).

Also agree with Bob M from what I have heard from the post game interviews there doesn't sound like help was there on that play. Sounds like he was willing to give up a TD for a chance at a pick and that is the chance they wanted him to take. - buzz

I have not re-viewed, but based on what I read about the pick 6

he may not have had help, or if he did, it was already far back in the EZ. The logic was that it was medium risk high reawrd because giving up the TD just tied the game and gave the Saints (rolling) offense the ball with 4 minutes left. You know how we all felt the Colts inevitable wins all season? Well, this one felt the opposite and everyone knew it. (of course a surprise on-side kick at that point if the Colts had tied it.... ok, never mind.) - Bob M

We've seen that type of performance by a Colt WR in the playoffs before. Reggie played like Marvin last night and it was very disappointing to watch.

Look at his production in games 1-10 and games 11-19 and I definitely think he may have been playing with a more serious injury than anyone knew. - Scott K

11 targets. 5 catches.

It was more than just mental mistakes. Plus, you are ripping him for a bobble on which he made the catch. I would have to see the film, but my guess is that Porter had help on every play. That's probably why he was able to jump the final pick. He had deep help, so he had the freedom to jump the route. - DZ

Gonzo will help

Having a healthy Gonzo back next season will take some of the pressure off of Wayne. I love Garcon but Gonzo is a more dependable, top-flight WR. - JTBLA

I don't think putting porter on a #1 receiver like wayne is considered taking him out of the game. Correct me if i am wrong but the point of the article was that #1's can be taken out of the game based on defensive game planning. The saints used their #1 corner BY FAR on Garcon just like they would have all season long. that seems to me to be the opposite of the defense trying to take away a number one reciever. Wouldn't trying to take Wayne out of the game been moving Greer over on him? It seems more like Wayne making mental mishaps if anything. Bobbling the 4th down play at midfield, wiffing on the easy catch at the goal line, completely sitting down on the porter INT. If those types of plays were what the harrison article was predicting then it was right on. - buzz

That Wayne took himself out of the game a little last night? Prime examples:

1) Sitting on his route, and letting Porter jump it for the pick-six (positively Marvin-esque, that one)

2) Letting a TD pass go right through his not-even-outstretched hands, that sealed the Colts' fate

Reggie did not have one of his better games last night - probably not one of his better post-seasons (which somewhat validates the earlier point about #1 receivers being taken out of the game in the playoffs). - Chip Bennett
