I didn't seek him out. The author of the Giants blog wrote me and told me his friend is a huge Jets fans and would be great. He didn't seem as into as his friend suggested he would be. That's all I know. Re: Mathis Freeney. What makes them so devastating is that they lead the world in forced fumbles since they entered the league. They may only get a sack a game, but the odds that it causes a turnover are through the roof. Re: cumulative effect. I can buy that. The problem is that it only comes into play if the game is close. It's the most active Jets site on the internet. The contributors really know the team. I have seen them give some really honest assessments before. No big Jets fan is going to be a contributor on a Giants site. I am not sure how this works out in Indy, but I thought my Indy fan/Bears analogy works. 2) Noted, but the Jets can blitz because their pass D is the best in the league. I don't see a world of sacks coming in this game from Freeney or Mathis...and I think the two are fantastic. 3) 60 yards is not great, but with a power running game, it is a cumulative effect. Later in the game, it comes on stronger. 4) Wayne is a fantastic receiver. Top 5...no doubt at all. Point is that I just do not see him having some monster game where Johnson, Owens, Colston, Jackson and a who's who of the best WR's in the game could not. 2 TD's to the wideouts that Revis covered ALL YEAR. Against Revis, just 60 yds and even 1 TD would be shocking. He's a contributor to a Giants site, but apparently he's a huge Jets fan. Frankly, I'm disappointed by his performance. I was led to believe he'd be more thoughtful. 2. The Colts as a team didn't get a lot of sacks, because they don't blitz much and don't get pressure up the middle. Almost all their sacks come from Freeney and Mathis. They are dominant, even if the rest of the team doesn't hit the QB well. The difference between the Colts and Jets is that Indy gets almost the same pressure [i]blitzing less than half the amount the Jets do[/i]. 3. The Jets had 66 yards on 20 carries against the starters. If you think that's good, then we have different definitions of good. 4. That would be like asking you to answer questions about the Chicago Bears. A couple thoughts...The Jets running game is best late in the game. They are strong up front, so 70 yds against the Colts starters is actually pretty good. If Wayne has a big game, and Revis is covering him, you guys should all chip in and buy him a crown. He will have proven himself to be the best in the game. If Freeney and Mathis are so great, and are going to be killing the Jets all day I sure would like to know what stats you are looking at. I think both are killer, but the Colts have just 2 more sacks than a Jets team who did not sack the QB well. The Jets keep getting counted out by everyone but those who have watched them and know that they are dangerous. They shouldn't be in the playoffs right? The Colts...who lost to the Jets...gave them the game. Cincinnati laid down right? Cincinnati was going to kill them in the playoff though. San Diego was surely going to destroy them. Zombie was writing last week about how the Colts were going to beat the Chargers...and yet, here the Jets are...oops I don't expect us to win...but the talent gap here is not as large as you have all fooled yourself into believing. Let's see: 1) Shonn Greene played against our half-defense. He and Thomas had combined for about 70 yards before our half-starters sat down. 2) Manning-Wayne became the QB-WR tandem with the most intimate rapport in the league the moment the Colts let Harrison go. I'd be worried about that match-up every week. 3) Right, because Manning has never faced disguised blitzes before - especially from a Rex Ryan defe.... oh, wait. 4) This one was an honest answer. Personally, I think the Jets have to hold the Colts to less than 2 TDs, and force multiple turnovers. 5) Sanchez averaged 13/24 for 163 yards in the regular season. Even though in the playoffs his completion percentage has jumped from just over 50% to just over 60%, and his YPA from 6.7 to 7.4, throwing for 175 yards is going to require a 15/24 kind of performance. We'll see. 6) If the Jets only get one big play, expect them to lose. 7) I think the Ravens secondary (Revis notwithstanding) poses a bigger challenge for Manning, for one reason: Ed Reed. 8) Ask Miami how that philosophy worked out for them. The biggest factor in this game, turnovers or otherwise, will be Manning. 9) Freeney and Mathis line up in the same spots most of the time. Sometimes they rush from out wide, but normally the front four don't change their alignment. The Tackles stay in tight, and the OLBs are required to contain on the outside. The only ways to stop Freeney/Mathis are a) TE/RB blocking help or b) egregious holding. Based on the comments of the past week, I know Jets fans think some of our comments are ridiculous. But its good to know what intelligent people on the other side think their strength is. The things that jumped out at me were: 1) the Colts will have to respect Edwards deep (despite his hands), which means the Jets can stretch the field more than the Ravens could.
