I meant to say, "the ruling on the field was a fumble out of bounds at the 1 yard line, not down by contact." I think you guys knew what I meant though.

Just out of curiosity, how are you two able to do a podcast together when you're thousands of miles apart? - Cass

Yes, the ruling on the field was no fumble. They then determined on review that it was a fumble. As it turns out, Powers didn't quite have his 2nd foot down to re-establish himself in bounds, so had he recovered on the 1, it would've been Texans ball on the fumble out of bounds, but since it was in the end zone, it was a fumble out of the end zone, since by still being out of bounds, he ended the play by touching the ball. So while he tried to do the right thing, he didn't, but by screwing up, he helped the Colts.

On another note, the ref for this Sunday is Green. Last year he was on the bottom half in # of penalties called and had the 3rd lowest total yards in penalties. I am not sure which team this helps more. Probably them, since Moss will catch passes even if being held, Moss pushes off, and everyone holds Freeney. Damn it. Then again, whenever the Colts get the refs that call the most penalties, they somehow commit twice as many as the other team. Meh. Whatever. No fan of either team likes watching a game full of flags, so thank god the Pats have already had Winter and Carey this year (though Carey actually doesn't throw THAT many statistically. Just seems like he is always putting himself on TV.) - Willy Duer

Good point, though, Cass. On a tricky play like this the ruling on the field will factor heavily into the final ruling. - DemondSanders

My understanding was the ruling was down by contact.

I could be wrong. - DZ

I'm pretty sure that the ruling on the field was a fumble out of bounds at the 1 yard line, not a fumble out of bounds. I think that factored heavily into the call. - Cass
