You are correct. To stop the site from E-Mailing you when somebody comments on the thread, you have to uncheck the subscribe box. I actually like the E-Mail thing, especially with the "Quick Links" section. - Cass

Easterbrook is smart, and a good writer, and seems to know a lot about football, so I have no idea why he can't be all of these things at the same time.

I hate his columns. For example, the Bengals preview is all about how horrible it is that Andre Smith is holding out. Except he isn't. He's been slotted, the agent has worked a contract with his slotted salary, and Mike Brown isn't signing because he hates the slotting system and wants to pay him less. But that doesn't fit into his column, so he twists it.

Houston's season preview is "I like the American Flag!" Well thanks for that, Gregg. Good for you.

As for negative things about the Colts, he used to rail on Dwight Freeney as a "glory boy who only goes for the sack and won't play the run" or some nonsense like that.

Just a frustrating writer. Could and should be better and more interesting, but never is. - Drew Funk

Of how to be a talentless hack with no fanbase.

I, personally, didn't mind Good vs. Evil because I like to be evil.

I LOVED that he made us the Death Star. Loved it.

Only problem was....he made shit up. I can't recall specifics, but I remember he had to write a bullshit apology bc so many fans pulled his card for quotes like this:

"The team's star, Tom Brady, is a smirking sybarite who dates actresses and supermodels but whose public charity appearances are infrequent. That constant smirk on Brady's face reminds one of Dick Cheney; people who smirk are fairly broadcasting the message, 'I'm hiding something.'"

He compared my beloved quarterback to Captain Waterboard?? Get the fuuuuuck outta here.

And also.....why do I get an update on my blackberry every time some knucklehead writes a response on this thread? How do I stop that? Do I uncheck the 'subscribe' box?

Back to Easterbrook, a.k.a. Eddie Munster. Has he every written a negative syllable about Peyton Manning, Tony Dungy or the Colts? - J.C.

Right down to following TMQ to FO about 5 years ago. I enjoy his schtick in bits, but don't know the last tie I waded through an entire column; maybe I'll try today.

I think he is clever and more analytical than most, but when he sinks his teeth into a nascent idea that might be superior to the traditional stats, but is far inferior to some of the newer analysis out there, and refuses to let go.... it gets old. And sad. I'd probably like him a lot as a neighbor, so long as I have a ready excuse to cut a conversation short--"Dude, my kids just set the lake on fire."

JC, if history has taught us anything, it's that we can get to... TMQ.

Michael Corleone was always good at history.

I agree with JC that he did it as humor but that he also probably felt it to be somewhat true deep down. It was way over the top, but.... - Bob M

Simmons is a different animal

He's a guy who is totally infatuated with his own celebrity. Firstly, his actual understanding of football is little. He is totally overmatched by Schatz and Lombardi on his podcast, and even Cousin Sal and Damashek (who has a far superior podcast). He also has pretty much given up the column for the cast. What sad is that he is a really good writer. His ability to add comedy to his columns are really barely matched, especially his early stuff.

Either way, at least Easterbrook seems knowledgable. I totally agree with alot of what he is saying (esp, not punting on 4th down), and absolutely disagree with some of it too (esp, his aversion to blitzing), but always see the reason in what he is saying. - dmstorm22

Seriously? Most of his post isn't about football. It never is. Besides, his disclaimer has always been..."All predictions wrong or you money back."

It is just entertainment with a bit of football thrown in since he is a fan. - Derek

Easterbrook's analysis, although usually wrong and including too much of his own personal views on certain topics, isn't bad. He at least attempts to be scientific and non-biased, so he gets some points for that.

I think that Good Vs. Evil article from a few years was funny. That being said, I can see how if the Colts were the Evil side, it might not have come across so cleanly as hyperbole.

I read TMQ for the same reason I read Simmons: entertainment. I might not agree with everything (or anything) they say, but it's still entertaining. - Monkey Business

It was silly for him to ignore the facts on Mudd & Moore. As a whole though I really enjoy TMQ. He truely analyzes things, even if he throws in silly facts or viewpoints to go along with it. I sometimes have to skip through his in depth astrological paragraphs. - Nickaveli

He has given the Colts the most positive review and prediction any member of the msm has all year.

Also, he loves the complexities of the titles of NFL personnel (like Assistant VP of Player Personnel instead of GM), so he probably orgasmed over the thought of Mudd and Moore being called Senior coordinators. BTW, love the emeritus line. - dmstorm22
