Tracking the game

Tomorrow there won't be a live in game chat.  There's a couple of reasons for that:

1.  I want to enjoy the game with my family, and the chats chain me to my office with a two computer setup.

2.  The chats aren't re-readable after the fact.

3.  I want to start a new feature:  Key Stats

Key Stats will seek to track two or three important talking points during the game.  Obviously, it won't be hard to follow the YPC for Joe Addai, but if I want to quantify how effective the Colts blitz is, I'll have to take my own notes.  For now I'm going to be tracking the play of Charlie Johnson and the effectiveness of the blitz.  I'll do a post on the results after the game (Sunday night or Monday).

I will do an old-school in game update blog.  Several times a quarter, I'll post thoughts and updates from the game.

...I don't see how you do it anyway

Man, I don't see how you do those live in-game chats anyway. When I'm watching the Colts live, I'm way too keyed up to think about anything else. I'm pacing around and I don't sit down the whole game. And I'm sure you guys are worse than me...

Honestly, while I really enjoyed interacting with the readers, I hated being chained to the computer. It was torture. We'll do chats during other games, maybe a monthly MNF chat or something. I just can't handle it during the games.
Sounds great

I like the idea of the "key stats" feature and I agree that the chats often become unwieldy. If people want to chat during the game, there's always Johnny O, SB, and Phil B - I'm glad to get some additional value-added from 18to88 in the post-game analysis. Personally, I like to watch the game at my own pace anyway, and don't want to be focused on a chat going on at the same time.
I like the idea of the monthly "other game chats"

or something. I love chatting with you guys, but I can't do it during Colts games. I'll be here for any other game though. Count on it.

@Doug England On gameday I'm usually bouncing between chats here and at SB (and sometimes putting up overflow threads on SB) while checking in on Phil B and Oesher's coverage and looking for inactives and injury updates for the next set of games (fantasy football purposes).
